We enjoy getting to know the small business owners we work with, as well as learn the stories behind why they started their businesses. One of the most inspirational stories we’ve heard recently comes from a man named Glenn Moore. We had the pleasure of working with Glenn, owner of Nashville’s Fresh Fish & Fry, to design, print and install his full-coverage food truck wrap. Here’s his story!

After working for General Motors for 33 years, Glenn was definitely ready for retirement, but his idea of retirement wasn’t typical. He felt a calling, inspired by his strong faith, to do something for his fellow man. Many years before, he felt God had given him the idea to eventually open a home for broken men in need (especially those under the influence of drugs) called the “House that Cares.” Glenn’s vision was for this organization to provide an 18 month program to house and provide work for men, and to help them get back on their feet after rehabilitation. But before he could get started, he needed the financial resources to open and support the organization.

The food truck business idea started when Glenn was transferred from Spring Hill, TN to the GM plant in Lansing, MI, back in 2010. Although he only lived there a few years, he developed a love for the amazing food at the original Fresh Fish & Fry restaurant, a top-rated seafood restaurant located in Lansing. The restaurant is well known in the area for its fresh fish, seafood, and delicious (and addictive) specially seasoned “Crack Chicken.” Glenn knew that if he loved their food so much and kept going back for more, everyone in Nashville would, too!

Glenn was already cooking up his own special recipe fish for large groups of co-workers at the time (he loves to cook!), but he just couldn’t get the batter and special seasonings at the Fresh Fish & Fry off his mind. When retirement finally came, Glenn called the owner of the restaurant in Lansing, and asked if he could be his first franchisee. Fortunately, the owner, Wayne, quickly agreed!

After signing the franchise contract and receiving all the recipes, batters, and special seasonings, as well as the marketing collateral necessary to get started, Glenn began his journey to find a food truck. He located a rebuilt 16 ft. 2002 GMC (former) FedEx truck in Virginia and knew it was the perfect truck for him!

Next, it was time to find a company who had the expertise and experience to design, print and install the perfect food truck wrap. Fortunately, he called us and our graphic designer extraordinaire got started right away on the layout. Glenn also had a tight deadline, so we made sure we had several team members scheduled and ready to work on the truck’s surface preparation and wrap installation.

To create the layout, our designer used the original store’s outdoor sign as inspiration to create the Fresh Fish & Fry Nashville logo. He added the new logo and Cracked Chicken graphic into the layout, as well as a background pattern of chicken and fish icons and yellow stripes to give the truck wrap a feeling of movement and fun. He used the yellow to also connect the background to the Cracked Chicken graphic.

After Glenn enthusiastically approved the design, our team went to work! We printed the eye-catching vehicle wrap on high quality vinyl wrap using our wide format HP printers. Our talented (and very detailed) installers then worked several days to install the truck wrap. Here are photos of the installation in progress.

And here is Glenn standing beside his completely transformed food truck! Although the Fresh Fish & Fry food truck has only been in business for a short time, he’s already receiving rave reviews about the delicious food! As for the new food truck wrap, Glenn said he has received so many calls that he’s going to need a separate business line. That makes us feel great! :-)

As you can see, this truck took a talented team of one designer and several installers to design, print, and install, but the results are definitely worth all the hard work! We’re so proud to be able to help Glenn and his family get his new business started and can’t wait to see all the positive things they will be able to do in the future through his House that Cares organization.

As for Glenn’s journey through the process of starting Nashville’s first Fresh Fish & Fry, here’s what he had to say: “Everything I have asked for along the way, God has provided. My heart is for men who are broken. The House that Cares is what’s driving me (to start this business), and I thank God for this opportunity.”
