The holidays are over, and we’ve all recovered from overeating and a sickness (or two), so part two of our collaboration with Floura Teeter on the Gude Landfill Recreation Park project is finally here! Part one covered the custom metal signage we created for the park, ranging from wayfinding to informational, but this part of the project focuses on the sustainable design elements we implemented throughout. See how art meets nature in handcrafted wood creations that spark curiosity and reimagine design.
Sustainable Design with Oversized Boulders for Seating
For an incredibly creative option for seating in this wide open setting, the client chose oversized boulders that we collaborated with heavy equipment operators to move into place. It provides a beautiful “natural” setting for adults to lounge while kids run and play while blending into the scenery.
Handcrafted Fun
In multiple spots throughout the park, visitors can find a few different ways to have fun AND learn at the same time. For starters, we created handcrafted magnifying posts that kids can put the cool rocks and leaves they find in the park for a closer look. The property features three butterfly boxes designed to attract and support these vital pollinators for years to come.
And last, but certainly not least, are the wood-hewn tee posts for disc golf enthusiasts. There are also coordinating disc golf tee boxes and baskets for a full game of fun!
Creating Fun with Nature
With all the plastic and metal playgrounds going up everywhere you look, it’s pretty refreshing to see fun crafted out of nature. There are several stumps with playable tic-tac-toe games engraved in them, as well as a stump climb and balance star for the more adventurous kiddos.

If you prefer to sit and ponder rather than run and play, we’ve got you covered! These handcrafted wooden shade structures, benches, and sloped chaise lounges are perfect for sitting and while away a beautiful day.
We really enjoyed being a part of this massive remediation project for the Gude Landfill. It’s not every day you get to turn something known for trash and turn it into a playful treasure. This project highlights our capabilities beyond the custom signage you’ve seen from us before.
